OVC launches drug and medical device evaluation and inspection center
On Sept 23, the Central China Branch of the National Evaluation and Inspection Center for Drugs and Medical Devices commenced operations in Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China, or OVC).
As one of three regional centers established in the second phase by the National Medical Products Administration, this center will primarily serve the regions of Hubei, Hunan, Henan, and Jiangxi.
The center's primary responsibilities include providing comprehensive technical services such as research and development guidance, consultation, and evaluation communication for drugs and medical devices. It will also handle registration verification and routine inspections. These efforts are expected to significantly enhance the efficiency of drug and medical device evaluations and approvals in Central China, providing a strong impetus for innovation and development in the region's pharmaceutical industry.
This year, Hubei province has already received approval for four Class 1 innovative drugs and one Class 3 innovative medical device, a record high. Through this new center, Hubei aims to capitalize on its rich innovation resources and solid industrial foundation to accelerate the development of its health industry, including biopharmaceuticals, high-end medical equipment, and traditional Chinese medicine.
